Thick scores awards hat-trick

More gongs for Iannucci's satire

The Thick Of It has added to its impressive tally of accolades by scooping three gongs at today’s Broadcasting Press Guild Awards.

Armando Iannucci’s sharp political satire was named best comedy/entertainment programme while Peter Capaldi won best actor for his portrayal of savage spin doctor Malcolm Tucker.

And its writers, which include Peep Show co-creator Jesse Armstrong and the cast who improvise scenes, scooped the Writers' Award.

The winners were announced ahead of the ceremony at the Theatre Royal in London.
