With Ali G at No3

The Ghosts film The Possession Of Button House has opened at No1 at the UK box office.

The sitcom spin-off grossed £2.4million in its opening weekend, from 642 sites.

That means it took an average of £3,827 per screen, which industry website ScreenDaily called ‘respectable’. Its budget has not been released, but some commentators have cited a figure around the £4million mark.

At No 2 was Marvel horror Clayface, taking £1.9million in its first weekend, followed by Ali G: Who Iz I? taking £1.3million.

Sacha Baron Cohen’s return had originally been billed as being in its 458 sites for one week only – but will remain in some cinemas through to next weekend.
