Rhod lands BBC One pilot

Comic's question time...

Rhod Gilbert is being lined up to front his own comedy show for BBC One.

A pilot episode of Ask Rhod Gilbert is being recorded in front of a studio audience in London later this month, in which he and two guest comedians answer ridiculous questions.

Inbetweeners and We Are Klang star Greg Davies has been confirmed for the run-through, which will not be broadcast.

Gilbert told Chortle he was glad to be asked to front the show, following his success as a guest host on Never Mind The Buzzcocks.

He said: ‘I had a right laugh on Buzzcocks, and felt very much at home in the host role.  I'm hoping that this new project will be more of the same.

‘It's a tricky business getting the format and the people right, and I'm happy that this is a non-broadcast pilot, so I can dick around a bit and see what works.  The idea was brought to me by the production company, but I'm in the process of shaping it to fit what I do, and we'll see what happens.

‘We haven't confirmed all the parties involved at the moment; twat Greg Davies is going to be on my right hand, so we just need to find someone decent to balance him out and we're off.’

The show – which is being made by Belfast-based production company Green Inc – is being recorded on March 22. See our free tickets page to be in the audience.

Meanwhile, Gilbert is also recording a pilot for an ITV1 show with Paddy McGuinness. He is a team captain in They Drink It In The Congo, opposite Sarah Millican, which is designed to ‘celebrate all things funny from around the world’.
