Getting On with a new series

Jo Brand's NHS sitcom recommissioned

Jo Brand’s dark medical comedy Getting On is to return to BBC Four.

Another six half-hour episode have been commissioned, and should air later this year.

Brand stars alongside Joanna Scanlan and Vicki Pepperdine in the sitcom, set on a female NHS geriatric ward, and all three wrote it.

The Thick Of It’s Peter Capaldi directs in a similar style to the political comedy that made his name, while stand-up Ricky Griver plays Matron Hilary Loftus Ricky Grover.

The first three-part series, though tucked away in the schedules, received rave reviews when it aired last summer.

The Mirror called it ‘dazzlingly low-key; and ‘relentlessly funny’, the Times called it ‘superlative’ and The Guardian said: ‘Who would have thought a sitcom set in an NHS ward could be so tragic, moving and hilarious? We want more.’
