US comic on burglary charges

American stand-up Katt Williams has reportedly been arrested in on suspicion of burglary.

The star has been released on bail, on charges of burglary and criminal trespassing, according to TMZ.com.

The comedian is alleged to have used a crowbar to break into a home on Sunday night and steal $3,555 worth of jewellry and collectable coins.

However, Williams 's lawyer told TMZ the charges are a sham - the result of a dispute between Williams and a another man.

He told CNN he had been a guest in the alleged victim's house and that: 'This is a misunderstanding which will work out quickly.'

The 36-year-old stand-up starred in his own 2006 HBO special, The Pimp Chronicles Pt. 1. and in 2008 handed out $100 bills to audience members at the Los Angeles Laugh Factory. He also appears in the 2007 Eddie Murphy film Norbid – and performing a stand-up set in the video game Grand Theft Auto – an honour he shares with Ricky Gervais.
