Making obesity seem 'normal'

Expert hits out at Gavin & Stacey stars

James Corden and Ruth Jones have been blamed for making obesity seem ‘normal’.

Prof Michael McMahon said the Gavin & Stacey stars and other overweight celebrities contributed to an ‘alarming’ acceptance of obesity.

.He said: ‘The increasing profile of larger celebrities, for example James Corden, Eamonn Holmes, Ruth Jones and Beth Ditto, means that being overweight is now perceived as being normal.

‘We talk about the dangers of skinny media images, but the problem swings both way’

He hit out after a survey revealed 23 per cent of British people are now classed as obese — compared to just 11 per cent ten years ago.
