Hill and Kay triumph at RTS awards

So do Peep Show and Outnumbered

Peter Kay, Harry Hill and Peep Show were among the winners at the Royal Television Society Awards last night.

Kay won best comedy performance for his Channel 4 special Britain's Got The Pop Factor, while Hill’s TV Burp was named best entertainment show, which judges said was ‘great comedy entertainment that began as “alternative” and is now a winner slap bang in the middle of primetime.’

Peep Show creators Sam Bain and Jesse Armstrong were named best comedy writers, while the BBC One sitcom Outnumbered was named best scripted comedy – even though parts of it are improvised. Judges said the show was ‘a genuinely fresh and innovative comedy – achieving authentic and funny family dialogue and interaction, with note-perfect writing and performances’.

Alan Carr and Justin Lee Collins won the best entertainment performance award fir the Sunday Night Project.

The accolades were handed out at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London.
