Student Awards: Now it's over to you

People's Choice voting opens

The heats of the Chortle Student Comedy Award have come to an end – with Joe Lycett triumphing at the gig in Sheffield University last night.

It means 11 of the 12 places in the final at the Edinburgh Fringe this August have now been secured – but Chortle readers now decide who takes the one remaining place.

All the remaining competitors are eligible for the ‘people’s choice’ place, which goes to the act with the most public support.

The judges’ choice of the 12 best runners-up are below – but feel free to ignore our suggestions when you cast your vote for your favourite. To help you decide, clips from every act who took part in the regional heats can be viewed here.

Chortle editor Steve Bennett said: Plenty of the heats were close-run affairs – so the people’s choice offers a vital second chance for some of those brilliant acts who were narrowly defeated on the night.'

Voting is open until 11.59pm on March 30, and the winner of the final place will be announced the following morning. The winner of the Edinburgh final wins £1,000 – and the invaluable exposure taking such a high-profile title entails.
