Alan Carr lands Radio 2 show

'I'm the fairy cornflake', he jokes

Alan Carr is to join Radio 2, it was confirmed today.

The comic will host an early Saturday evening show as the station revamps its weekend schedules.

He had been tipped to take the late-night slot Russell Brand resigned from in the wake of the Sachsgate phone calls, but BBC bosses have given him a 6-8pm show instead.

The show starts on April 25, and he will co-host it with Emma Forbes.

Carr said: ‘I can’t tell you how excited I am about my new radio show. Emma and I will be getting listeners in the mood for Saturday nights, whether they’re going out and about or having a quiet night in with a ready meal and a cheap bottle of plonk.

‘You've had the hairy cornflake - now you've got the fairy cornflake.’

A BBCspokesman said: ‘Alan’s unique style of humour has proved to be immensely popular with the Radio 2 audience,’

Carr hosted special Radio 2 shows at Christmas 2007 and 2008, as well as presenting the six-part series Alan Carr's Comedy Outings for the station.
