BBC One plans circus sitcom

BBC One is to launch a star-studded sitcom set in a circus.

The ensemble cast includes John Thomson as a clown with anger management issues and Tony Robinson as an embittered accountant and part-time acrobat.

The show also sees the return of Hi-Di-Hi! star Ruth Madoc as a dog-trainer, while Jeff Rawle – who was embattled editor George Dent in Drop The Dead Donkey – plays a suicidal volunteer for the human cannonball.

The action is held together by Amanda Holden as the ring mistress,

Filming starts on January 31, for screening later in 2009.
