5 to air a celebration of Alan Carr

90-minute documentary

Channel 5 is to air a documentary celebrating Alan Carr’s life and career in comedy.

The 90-minute special, titled Alan Carr: My Best Bits & More will air on October 24 – six days before the end of The Celebrity Traitors on BBC One, which he famously won last year.

Producers Double Yellow Entertainment say that Carr ‘tells his own story through interviews and autobiographical testimony given across his 25-year career in British comedy.’

The clips will cover him discussing his awkward childhood growing up in Northampton during the 1980s as the son of football manager Graham – the basis for the ITV comedy Changing Ends.

Carr and family as a child

Carr found his comic voice in the Manchester stand-up scene of the 1990s and the programme features rarely-seen footage from Alan’s earliest work on television, including winning the BBC’s New Comedy Award in 2001 and his appearance on the 2005  Royal Variety Performance.

Talking heads on the programme include fellow Celebrity Traitor Jonathan Ross, comedians Rob Beckett and Shaparak Khorsandi and actors Sally Lindsay and Tamzin Outhwaite

Alan Carr: My Best Bits & More airs on 5 on Saturday, October 24, from 8.35pm to 10.05pm.

The Celebrity Traitors final will air on Friday, October 30, from 8pm until 9.20pm, followed by 40 minutes of Ed Gamble-fronted spin-off show Uncloaked.
