Perkins wins baton battle

Now she'll conduct at the Proms

Sue Perkins will conduct an orchestra in front of 30,000 fans after winning the BBC2 show Maestro last night.

The 38-year-old comedian beat competition favourite Goldie, the drum ‘n’ bass star, to take the title.

She said: ‘Winning has been an extraordinary and exhilarating experience, so thank you.

‘It was very intense. They (the orchestra) were brilliant. It was too much fun.’

She will now conduct the BBC Concert Orchestra as they play Elgar’s Pomp and Circumstance March No.4 during the flag-waving Last Night Of The Proms celebrations in London’s Hyde Park on Saturday.

Judge Dominic Seldis told Sue: ‘I can’t believe what I’ve witnessed. You made conducting Beethoven look easy. Extraordinary.’
