Televised worm charming

Paddy McGuinness and Rory McGrath's new show

Rory McGrath and Paddy McGuinness are to front a new travel series for Five, in which they travel around Britain taking part in bizarre traditional sports.

The programmes will show the pair participating in such events as cheese rolling, shin kicking, wife carrying, bog snorkeling and worm charming.

And – like McGuinness’s former collaboration with Peter Kay, Max & Paddy’s Road To Nowhere – the duo will be touring the country in a camper van.

Four hour-long shows have been commissioned, with the working title Rory & Paddy’s Road Of Sport.

McGuiness said: ‘Driving around the country, in a camper van, with Rory McGrath? I didn't sign up for this.’

While McGrath joked: ‘They only want me as Paddy's interpreter.’

Five’s controller of factual entertainment, Steve Gowans, said: ‘We are delighted to have Paddy and Rory at the helm of our camper van as they take on a series of obscure and rather ridiculous sporting events.’

The programme will be made by IWC Media, the company that previously produced Stephen Fry’s documentary about manic depression.
