Global triumph for Extras

...but not for Gervais himself

Ricky Gervais has another Golden Globe to add to his collection, as Extras was named best TV comedy last night.

But he missed out award for best TV comedy actor for his role as Andy Millman, which went to former X-Files star David Duchovny for Californication.

None of the winners were on hand to receive their awards, which were announced at a press conference after the usual glitzy ceremony was cancelled.

Striking writers refused to work on the show, and stars would have been reluctant to be seen crossing picket lines, so organisers at the Hollywood Foreign Press Association axed the event.

Also athe press conference – which took 30 minutes rather than the usual four hours - Tina Fey was named best TV comedy actress for her starring role in 30 Rock, beating Christina Applegate for Samantha Who?, America Ferrera for Ugly Betty, Anna Friel for Pushing Daisies and Mary-Louise Parker for Weeds.

Extras triumphed over 30 Rock, Californication, Entourage and Pushing Daisies in its category; while the other nominated comedy actors were Steve Carell, for The Office, Alec Baldwin for 30 Rock, and Lee Pace for Pushing Daisies.
