US writers unveil award nominees

The Office, Flight Of The Conchords and Sarah Silverman are all up for awards in the Writers Guild of America awards.

Even though the guild’s members are currently on strike, nominations were announced last night for its 60th accolades, to be given out on February 9.

The 16 writers on NBC's The Office were shortlised in the categories for best comedy series and episode, where they had three of the six nominations.

The nine-strong Flight of the Conchords writing team was nominated for comedy series, episode and new series, where The Sarah Silverman Program was also shortlisted.

The Simpsons took four of six nominations in the animation category, with King of the Hill taking the remaining two slots.

The comedy nominations are:

Best comedy series: Curb Your Enthusiasm, Entourage,Flight Of The Conchords, The Office, 30 Rock

Episodic comedy: Pie-Lette (Pushing Daisies), The Job (The Office), Negotiation (30 Rock), Local Ad (The Office), Phyllis's Wedding (The Office), Sally Returns (Flight of the Conchords)

Comedy/variety series: The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, The Colbert Report, Late Night With Conan O’Brien, Penn & Teller: Bullshit!, Real Time with Bill Maher, Saturday Night Live

Animation (single episode): The Haw-Hawed Couple (The Simpsons), The Homer of Seville (The Simpsons), Kill Gil Volumes 1&2 (The Simpsons), Stop or My Dog Will Shoot! (The Simpsons), The Passion of the Dauterive (King of the Hill), Lucky's Wedding Suit (King of the Hill)

And for best new series across all genres: Damages (FX), Flight Of The Conchords (HBO), Man Men (AMC), Pushing Daisies (ABC), The Sarah Silverman Program (Comedy Central)
