Sketch show for Gavin & Stacey duo

Corden and Horne work on BBC pilot

Gavin & Stacey stars James Corden and Matthew Horne are working on their own sketch show.

The triumphant British Comedy Award winners are shooting a pilot episode for the BBC, and said they were taking great strides to get it right.

Horne said: ‘It’s something we’ve always wanted to do. We’d like to make a really good sketch show.

‘We’re going to make a pilot. We want t to be the best we can, so we’re taking our time to test it out.’

Corden added that they wanted the show to be like the sketch shows they remember from their youth, such as Alas Smith And Jones and The Mary Whitehouse Experience. ‘If you missed The Mary Whitehouse Experience, don’t bother coming into school the next day,’ he said.

The pair revealed their plans backstage at the British Comedy Awards, where Corden was named best comedy newcomer and their BBC Three series, which Corden wrote with co-star Ruth Jones, was named best new scripted comedy.

It was also revealed yesterday that they will both present Big Brother’s Big Mouth on E4 for three weeks in January. And they are also working on a second, seven-part series of Gavin & Stacey.
