Stewart signs up for more Daily Shows

And the archives go online

America’s Comedy Central channel has signed up Jon Stewart to host The Daily Show for two more years.

Stewart will also be executive producer of the nightly topical show until 2010 under the extension of his contract.

Comedy Central also launched a new website dedicated to the programme yesterday, featuring 13,000 video clips from the last nine years.

The clips are all free to view, but incorporating ads, and can be searched by date and by topic.

Stewart’s company, Busboy Productions, has also recently signed a deal to make a new series with former Perrier-winner Demetri Martin for Comedy Central.

The show will feature sketches and stand-up themed around each episode’s topic that could be anything from ‘chairs’ to ‘what happens after we die’.

The show – which will run for six to ten episodes – is set to air in the US in the second half of 2008.
