Oliver's movie break

Comic lands role in Myers pic

John Oliver has landed his first movie role – appearing in the new Mike Myers comedy The Love Guru.

The comic laded the role of the guru’s manager, Dick Pants, on the back of his US success as a correspondent on The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.

Shooting starts in Toronto on Friday and the film is due out in the States in June 2008.

The Love Guru features Myers' first original character since Austin Powers. Pitka is an American raised by Indian gurus who seeks his fortune as a self-help expert – eventually helping the Toronto Maple Leafs ice hockey team.

The cast also includes Ben Kingsley , Justin Timberlake and Verne Troyer – aka Mini-Me from the Austin Powers films.
