French: I will die young

...but I'm not scared by it

Dawn French thinks she will die young.

The comic, who turns 50 in October, is planning a move to Cornwall, because that is where she wanted to spend her last years.

She said there was ‘not much logic’ to her belief, as she is not ill and there is no history of early death in her family, although her father committed suicide at the age of 45, when she was 19.

In an interview with the Sunday Times magazine, she said she was moving to Cornwall to write her memoirs.

She said: ‘I've never thought I'd live to be very old. I've always felt that. So by 50 I want to be down there.’

She added that she wants to die ‘slowly and nicely, in great surroundings, with my family. It is a bit shocking isn't it?

‘I don't feel gloomy about it. I'm resigned to it. I don't know why I feel so sure. I said it to my brother when I was about six."

‘It doesn’t feel scary, it feels like a surety. I’m not scared of death. I want to be around for my kid to get plugged into adult life. That is the only thing I would want to live any time for.’
