ITV2 orders superhero sitcom

ITV2 has commissioned its first original sitcom – an eight-part series about the off-duty lives of a group of superheroes.

No Heroics will follow the lives of four London-based heroes and their struggles in love and with fame, according to producers Tiger Aspect.

It will go into production early next year for transmission in late 2008, according to MediaGuardian.

ITV2 controller Zai Bennett said: ‘We're taking real strides forward in comedy and as the channel's first ever original commissioned sitcom, No Heroics will play a huge part in that strategy.

‘This is a perfect ITV2 comedy: it's witty, accessible and laugh-out-loud funny, and is being produced with real passion from a great team.’

The series’ creator Drew Pearce, whose credits include ITV2's journalism-based reality show Deadline, added: ‘The superhero genre certainly seems ripe for a very British take on the subject, plus I have about 20 years' worth of comic books that I'm looking forward to finally being able to claim as expenses.’

ITV2 is gradually moving towards original entertainment and away from relying on spin-offs from ITV1. It has recently ordered a second series of Comedy Cuts, which features stand-ups performing in unusual locations.
