New sitcom about a recovering alcoholic

Green Wing’s Stephen Mangan is to star in new BBC Two sitcom about a recovering alcoholic.

In Never Better, Mangan will play Alcoholics Anonymous member Keith, whose new-found sobriety ‘brings crisis and destruction to those around him’.

Production company World Productions say: ‘At his AA group he creates chaos endangering the recovery of his fellow twelve-steppers. At home, his wife and two children have to cope with Keith’s new extreme attentiveness and misfiring determination to be a good dad and husband.’

Six half-hour episodes are currently in production. No transmission date has yet been set, but it is expected to air early next year.

The series also stars Kate Ashfield, who had a lead role in Shaun Of The Dead, and Tom Goodman-Hill, from Ideal and Spoons.

Never Better is the first comedy commission for World Productions, which is better known for dramas such as the BBC One’s Rough Diamond.
