Hugh's honour

Laurie collects his OBE

Hugh Laurie has today collected his OBE from the Queen

The comic tuned high-earning US actor picked up the honour for services to acting at a Buckingham Palace ceremony.

The 47-year-old recently won two Golden Globes for his role in medical drama House. He joked of those honours: ‘They are now installed in my son's bedroom, which I have converted into a Hall of Fame. He sleeps in the garden.’

He began his comedy career as part of the Cambridge Footlights, which won the first Perrier Award in 1981, and became famous with A Bit Of Fry And Laurie alongside Stephen Fry in 1987.

Laurie was made a member of the Order of the British Empire in this year’s New Year Honours list.
