Quit comedy, get rich

Ex stand-up's £20m deal

A former stand-up turned travel entrepreneur has sold her business for £20million.

Deidre Bounds started i-to-i.com ten years ago, after a stint as a comic on the Northern circuit.

She worked clubs for several years after taking a ten-week evening course in stand-up at Swarthmore College in Leeds.

But she quit to set up her ethical company offering 'life-changing' travel experiences – which has now netted her a fortune after being sold to First Choice Travel.

Bounds, 42, says her comedy experience does come in handy. ’I'm a regular speaker at business lunches and awards dinners,’ she told the Daily Telegraph. ‘And, yes, there'll be more than a few jokes.’

This autumn she will star in the new Channel 4 reality show The Mission, in which British businesspeople try to tackle social problems in Africa.
