Vyle by name...

Jennifer Saunders's latest creation

Jennifer Saunders has unveiled her latest comic creation, a daytime TV presenter in the vein of Trisha.

The comic will play Vivienne Vyle in a new BBC Two series next year, an agony aunt who presents such trash TV issues as ‘My Son Calls The Wrong Man Daddy’ and ‘I Want A Vagina’. But predictably enough, her own domestic life is a mess.

The Life And Times Of Vivienne Vyle co-stars Miranda Richardson as manic producer Helena and Conleth Hill, who appeared in sketch show TV To Go, as Vivienne’s partner Jared.

The show was originally commissioned as a BBC One pilot, but has instead found a home on the BBC Two winter/spring schedules unveiled today.

Also in the line up is Television The Opera, a series of contemporary musical comedies based on TV shows, written by Jerry Springer – The Opera creators Richard Thomas and Stewart Lee.

The series takes TV programmes, including Wife Swap and Question Time, and gives them a full operatic interpretation, with a large ensemble cast and a 45-piece BBC orchestra.

BBC Two also confirmed the return of sci-fi comedy Hyperdrive, about British spaceship HMS Camden Lock and starring Nick Frost, Kevin Eldon, Miranda Hart and Dan Antopolski.
