Williams seeks booze treatment

Robin Williams has started treatment for alcoholism after falling off the wagon.

The comedian and actor had been sober for 20 years, but ‘found himself drinking again’, his publicist has announced.

Mara Buxbaum said her 54-year-old client ‘has decided to take proactive measures to deal with this for his own well-being and the well-being of his family.’

However, the statement did no mention the word ‘rehab’, even though the National Enquirer has reported that Williams checked into a clinic in Oregon run by the Hazelden programme.

The statement concluded: ‘He looks forward to returning to work this fall to support his upcoming film releases.’

Last month, Williams said that he planned to return to stand-up with a tour of the US.

The announcement came in the wake of Mel Gibson’s drink-drive arrest, after which the actor said he’d ‘begun an ongoing programme of recovery’.
