Comedy gold

Brits lead Rose d'Or nominees

Catherine Tate, Stephen Fry and Jimmy Carr have been nominated for this year's prestigious Rose d'Or international TV awards.

Tate’s BBC Two show had already been shortlisted for best comedy, but now she has been nominated for an individual prize for best female comedy performance.

She will be up against Joy Joyner from Five’s Swinging and Germany’s Cordula Stratmann.

Look Around You’s Peter Serafinowicz has been shortlisted for best male comedy performance, alongside Chris Lilley of the Australian show The Nominees and German star Dieter Nuhr

Fry and Carr are both up for best game show host, for QI and Distraction respectively. Wignald Boning, host of Germany’s Mega Clever, completes the line-up.

Extras star Ashley Jensen has been nominated for best female sitcom performance. Ricky Gervais hasn’t made any shortlist, but he will be presented with an honorary award at the festival.

Jensen is up against Anna Chancellor, for her role in Five’s upcoming Suburban Shootout, and Serbia’s Mirka Vasiljecic

Best male sitcom performance nominees are Peter Capaldi for The Thick of It, Steve Carell, star of the US version of The Office, and Germany’s Bastian Pastewka.

The previously announced list of nominees for programme awards included Extras, Look Around You, Swinging, The Thick Of It and The IT Crowd.

The Rose d'Or awards ceremony will take place in Lucerne, Switzerland, on April 29.
