Robbie Williams wants to be a comic

It could be definitive proof that comedy really is the new rock and roll –Robbie Williams says he wants to quit music to become a stand-up.

He believes following in the footsteps of his father Peter, who once worked as a comedian, might help dispel the image of him as a depressive plagued by demons off-stage.

'My father was a stand-up comedian for years. Maybe I will be one day too,' he told German newspaper Die Zeit.

‘I notice sometimes on stage that the music suddenly gets in the way because I just want to talk to the audience or make them laugh.'

Williams has already had one brush with comedy, appearing in a Little Britain sketch as a rubbish transvestite.
