Spring time for Evans

Lee boards The Magic Roundabout

Lee Evans has joined the cast of the new movie based on The Magic Roundabout.

The comic, currently starring in the West End smash The Producers, will play a new character, Train.

The "plucky and courageous" computer-generated character takes the children’s heroes through an icy wasteland to do battle with the evil spring-bottomed ZeeBadee, as voiced by Tom Baker.

Also in the cast are Jim Broadbent as Brian, Joanna Lumley as Ermintrude, Kylie Minogue as Florence, Bill Nighy as Dylan, Sir Ian McKellan as  Zebedee and Robbie Williams as Dougal.

"It's really exciting to be involved in this project," 40-year-old Evans told BBC News.

"The Magic Roundabout has become something of a national treasure. Now we can pass this on to the next generation to enjoy."

The film is set for release in February 2005. Click here for the trailer
