Flanimal magic!

Gervais signs Hollywood deal

Ricky Gervais is poised to sign a deal to make a major Hollywood movie based on his children’s book Flanimals.

He will storyboard the animated film, act as executive producer and provide the voice of one of the characters.

The film is likely to cost between $50 and $80 million, according to his publicist.

Flanimals was only published last month, and instantly topped the bestsellers charts. A third print run has already been ordered.

Gervais said: “It’s been almost instant success as I’ve only been working on it for nearly 25 years.  Flanimals 2 will be released in the spring of 2039”.

The book profiles 35 bizarre creatures, such as the Underblenge, which captures its prey with suckerrs that are impossible to prize off. Unfortunately it can't catch anything as it can't move from the rock it was born on.

The movie deal marks Gervais’s continuing domination of America, following his double Golden Globes triumph earlier in the year. He was recently named man of the year by American GQ magazine.

However, despite the lure of Hollywood, Gervais says he intends to continue living in Britain.
