Gervais goes into politics

Ricky plans new stand-up show

Ricky Gervais is working on a new stand-up show.

But the comic says he won't be touring it around the country because he hates life on the road.

The comic, who only performed a handful of stand-up gigs before shooting to fame with The Office, says the new show will be called Politics.

It's a follow-up to Animals, the show he performed for a short run at London's Bloomsbury Theatre before releasing it on DVD and video.

Gervais told the Observer he wanted to try to change his style for the new shows. "I know what I want to see. I want to see me acting like Seinfeld," he said.

But he admitted his live performances were more about showing that he could perform stand-up, rather than making a career switch.

"If I did a big tour I'd probably net about five million, and it would be the worst six weeks of my life."
