Street role? 'Ave it!

Peter Kay to appear in soap

Peter Kay has landed a role in Coronation Street.

The comic will play a bungling romeo in two episodes of the long-running soap, to be screened next year.

He will play Eric, a brewery drayman who falls for Rovers landlady Shelley Unwin - and takes her on a disastrous date.

An unnamed source on the show told The Sun: "It's a very, very funny storyline. The date over dinner turns into a hilarious sequence of comic errors.

Soap actress Sally Lindsay, who plays Shelley, is a friend of Peter and appeared in his Channel 4 series Phoenix Nights.

Another Street source said: "Everyone was thrilled when he signed the contract. The bosses are just bowled over at landing him for the soap."
