Comedy venue wins pub accolade

A Liverpool comedy venue has been named entertainment pub of the year, beating more than 4,000 rivals.

The Slaugherhouse, home to the weekly Laughterhouse Club, was presented with the award by Bruce Forsyth at the Victoria & Albert Museum.

The pub is Liverpool's oldest, and has been revitalised by owner Adam Franklin over the past 12 months.

In making their decision, judges said: "Adam and the team at The Slaughterhouse have shown a massive commitment and vision in their development of entertainment.

"The Laughterhouse comedy club attracts a specialised crowd and has already become a must-play venue on the comedy circuit. This is a fantastically high quality venue in every respect."

Mark Thomas, Howard Marks and Daniel Kitson have all played the venue in recent months.
