Angus's quiz show comeback

Deayton set to host new panel game

Angus Deayton is planning a new TV role, hosting a wry comedy quiz game.

The news comes on the day it was revealed that the scandal-hit former Have I Got News For You host has landed a role in Stephen Fry's new BBC2 sitcom Absolute Power.

But, by contrast, details of Deayton's new quiz show are being kept under tight wraps.

It will be called Bognor Or Bust, Chortle can reveal, and will feature panels of comedians and members of the public with a trip to Bognor at stake.

A pilot is being recorded in London Studios next month. It is not for broadcast, and it is not known which channel might be interested in commissioning the show.

Producers 4DTV have previously made the animated satire 2DTV for ITV1.

Meanwhile, Deayton's comeback is being boosted by the government spin-doctor in Absolute Power.

His character, Downing Street Press Secretary Colin Priestley, appears in the fourth of the six-part series, advising a Minister to reveal he's gay to save his career.

The series, a transfer from Radio 4, launches on November 10 and stars Fry (right) and John Bird as unscrupulous PR executives.

Next month Deayton also stars as a doctor in the BBC3 comedy Nighty Night, which will be hown on BBC2 next year.

Since losing his Have I Got News For You job amid revelations about prostitutes and cocaine, he has also hosted a couple of one-off series.
