Tate exhibits her talents

Comic actress lands BBC2 series

Catherine Tate is to star in her own six-part BBC2 series.

The comic character actress, who starred opposite Dawn French in the poorly-received sitcom Wild West, will start work on the show this autumn.

Tate first came to prominence as part of Lee Mack's Perrier-nominated sketch show at Edinburgh in 2000, returning for her own one-woman show the following year.

The half-hour BBC2 shows will air sometime next year, TV industry website C21Media reports.

It is one of three new comedy commissions from independent production house Tiger Aspect.

The others are a one-off Dame Edna Everage Christmas special for BBC1, and a second ten-part series of Fast Show spin-off Swiss Toni for BBC3.
