Stars shine for Spike

Charity tribute ahead

Leading British comedy stars are to pay tribute to Spike Milligan in a glitzy fundraising gala.

Eric Sykes, Paul Merton, Michael Palin, Terry Jones, Harry Enfield and Eddie Izzard are among those lined up to share anecdotes and readings.

Spike's work will also be remembered through his stories, poetry, sketches and films.

The event at London's Guildhall has been organised by Sir George Martin, the Beatles - and the Goons - record producer who was a friend of Spike's.

Spike died of liver failure at his home in East Sussex in February at the age of 83, after a long illness.

Tribute To Spike will take place on September 15 and raise money for the Lord Mayor's Appeal, The Square Smile.

Tickets are priced from £25 to £150 - the top price seats also include a plush three-course dinner in the company of the stars attending.
