Cumbria launches comedy contest

A hunt has been launched for the best new comedian in Cumbria.

The new talent competition forms part of a tiny comedy festival being held in the town of Workington next month.

The two-day event, on September 6 and 7, comprises full-length shows by Men In Coats and magician Paul Zenon, a comedy club night, street entertainment and a circus skills workshop.

Organiser Heidi Mavir said: "There are competitions which give people a chance to get up and try their hand at stand-ip, but this is the first time anyone has run a contest concentrated on one county.

"We know that there are some funny Cumbrians out there and this is a chance for them to get some of the exposure they deserve."
