That funny Ealing...

Classic comedies re-released

Six classic Ealing comedies are being re-released to mark the 100th anniversary of the studios.

The Ladykillers, The Man In The White Suit, Kind Hearts And Coronets, The Lavender Hill Mob (pictured), Whisky Galore and Passport to Pimlico have all been digitally restored,

They were made between 1949 and 1955 and defined the west London studios' reputation for a peculiarly British comedy, often involving the triumph of the community over the authorities.

The studios are now undergoing a £50million revamp in a bid to reestablish the name at the forefront of British comedy movies.

A new version of The Importance Of Being Earnest, starring Rupert Everett, Colin Firth and Dame Judi Dench will be the new first release from the studios, due out in September.

Meanwhile, the classics will be released in cinemas on August 9 and also as a DVD box set, priced £39.99 on September 2.
