Ed announces mammoth tour

Ed Byrne has announced the first batch of dates in what he claims will be the biggest solo stand-up tour of the UK.

More than 60 gigs comprise the first leg of the gruelling tour, starting in Wellingborough on September 21 and ending up with a week-long run at London's Bloomsbury Theatre at Christmas.

The tour also includes also includes a week in Dublin in November.

To stake a claim to the biggest stand-up tour, Byrne would have to surpass Lee Evans's current tour - which will be 118 dates by the time he finishes in Wembley Arena in October.

But Ken Dodd has performed three or four nights a week for years - though his epic nights, which run for up to five hours, do feature a couple of guest variety acts.

Byrne will announce more dates for 2003 later.
