'Nobody wants me'

Enfield's career crisis

Harry Enfield is out of work, and thinks his comedy career has hit the rails.

The comic says nobody wants him since his £1million show for Sky One flopped.

He told Metro newspaper: "Nobody wants me. No Christmas shows, not even pantomime.

"All the work has dried up, and the phone has stopped ringing."

His agent confirmed he was out of work, but added: "He's sort of busy writing. He has got things in the pipeline."

It's a dramatic change in fortunes for the 40-year-old creator of some of the most memorable comedy charcaters since he made his debut in 1988 as Stavros, including Loadsamoney, Smashy and Nicey and Tim Nice-but-Dim.

And his 1999 film, Kevin and Perry Go Large, took £10.5million at the UK box office.

But Harry Enfield's Spanking Brand New Show, which debuted on Sky One in 2000, was critically panned and failed to set the ratings alight.
