Seinfeld star axed

Sitcom pulled after five shows

The new sitcom from Seinfeld star Jason Alexander has been axed after just five episodes.

American network ABC has cancelled Bob Patterson because of disappointing audiences.

It had been due to run for 13 weeks, and four more episodes were already finished.

The show starred Alexander - hapless George Costanza in Seinfeld as a self-help guru.

It averaged 8.1 million viewers - a poor performance for its prime-time slot - putting it at number 73 in the TV charts.

Fellow Seinfeld star Michael Richards, who played Kramer, had his sitcom pulled last year after attracting similar audience figures.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus will be hoping to break the curse when her starring vehicle goes out later in the year.
