Tom Rosenthal to play a housefly

CITV series is getting a lot of buzz...

Tom Rosenthal is to voice a housefly in a new animated series for children.

The comic, who has starred in Friday Night Dinner and Plebs, takes the title role in the new CITV show Lloyd Of The Flies, from Wallace & Gromit studios Aardman.

He said: ‘Despite the fact that I believe Lloyd of the Flies to be a work of genius and am thrilled to bring these fantastic stories to life, the amount of people who have told me that I do actually sound like a fly has begun to get hurtful.’

Lloyd’s best friend Abacus will be voiced by Alex Lawther  from The End of the F***ing World, it was also announced today while Lauren Patel will take on the role of his sister PB.

Aimed at 7-to-11-year-olds, Lloyd Of The Flies follows the adventures of Lloyd B Fly, who lives with his parents, his sister and their 225 maggot siblings inside a compost bin they call home.

Darren Nartey, acquisitions manager at ITV has said the premise is ‘a great idea and our audience will love the dynamic British sense of humour’.

Rounding off the cast, Teresa Gallagher will play Cornea Butterfly, Callum Scott Howells voices Lloyd’s nemesis, Berry;  Pearl Mackie and Rob Rackstraw play Lloyd’s parents, Gena and Malcolm.; Ayesha Antoine is Julie and Libby; and Marcel McCalla plays Ampersand and Bob.

In total, 52 11-minute episodes of the series,  created and directed by Matt Walker, have been commissioned and will air from next year.

The writing team includes Anna Leong Brophy, Alex Collier, Tasha Dhanraj, Isabel Fay, Mark Oswin, and Jen Upton, with Andrew Barnett Jones and Ciaran Murtagh as script editors.
