The TV stand-up show written by its viewers
Rhod Gilbert and Stuart Goldsmith pilot crowdsourced format
TV executives are piloting a new stand-up show – with all the gags crowd-sourced.
Comics Stuart Goldsmith and Rhod Gilbert are to host a run-through af the show, Everyone's A Comedian, in London next week.
Goldsmith first tried out a similar idea at last year’s Edinburgh Fringe. when he had no advance sight of the submitted material.
Speaking to Chortle about that show, which was based on submissions from listeners to his hit Comedian's Comedian Podcast , he said: ‘I don't want to absorb the material and make it my own, I want to be a mouthpiece.’
He acknowledged: ‘At it's worst, it's going to be like one of those joke competitions you get in a provincial comedy club’, but said his podcast had a lot of funny listeners – including would-be comedians.
He said: ‘There are people out there with much more interesting jobs and dare I say, much more interesting lives than the sorts of people who are drawn to standing on stage and endlessly talking about their mediocre lives.
‘As soon as I had the idea I thought it was genius but then I thought, "Oh God, I've got to do it now." I'm sure there will be some gold there.’
Tickets for the run-through at the Tabernacle in Notting Hill are available here.
