Paddy McGuinness will switch on the Blackpool Illuminations this year, it has been announced
Thousands are expected to gather for the event on September 4, which also features a free concert with s Lucy Spraggan, The Feeling and Five.
McGuinness said: 'I grew up visiting Blackpool on family holidays and driving through the Illuminations. I’m chuffed to be asked to switch the lights and become part of the history of the town.
’I’ve performed in Blackpool plenty of times over the years and there’s always a fantastic atmosphere. I’m looking forward to joining the crowds for a belting night out.’
Councillor Lynn Williams, leader of Blackpool council, said: ‘Paddy is one of the UK’s most loved entertainers and has a wonderful connection with audiences across the country.’
A total of 20,000 tickets will be available via a public ballot, which closes at 11pm on Sunday August 9. Tickets will be split evenly between Blackpool residents and visitors.
Applications can be made at www.visitblackpool.com/switchon – tickets are free except for a £5 admin fee per booking. Visitors wanting to guarantee their place can instead buy a Golden Circle ticket for £12, plus a £5 admin fee per booking.
