Comedians to host Netflix gameshow

Desiree Burch, Lloyd Griffith and Seann Walsh front Flinch

Comedians Desiree Burch, Lloyd Griffith and Seann Walsh are to host a new game show for Netflix.

Flinch has been described as a ‘Jackass-meets-Wipeout-style game show’ in which contestants attempt to withstand pain and discomfort in games designed to make them scared.

If they flinch, there are painful consequences both for them, and for the hosts, who each choose a player to represent them in the games.

The show, which was originally called Chicken, is being made on a remote farm in the hills of Ireland  by Stellify Media, the makers of Can't Touch This and Blind Date.

Airing later this year, it appears to have some elements in common with Jimmy Carr’s 2003 game show Distraction, in which contestants answered questions while being distracted in bizarre, painful and humiliating ways.

Flinch is one of several non-scripted shows announced by Netflix  at the Edinburgh TV festival today, including the football documentary Sunderland Till I Die; a new Derren Brown special, Sacrifice; Death By Magic in which Drummond Money-Coutts, or DMC, looks at dangerous tricks; and global cookery competition The Final Table.

Walsh will also be appearing in the next series of Strictly Come Dancing,it was announced last week.
