BBC Wales orders topical panel show
Robin Morgan and Kiri Pritchard-McLean are to front a new topical panel show for BBC Radio Wales.
What Just Happened? will feature panel of established and emerging contributors, with the pilot episode featuring Anna Thomas and Tadiwa Mahlunge.
The first show will be recorded at Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff and will be broadcast on BBC Radio Wales on Thursday July 6.
The series, made by Litte Wander, will run until Thursday July 27.
Morgan, who co-created the format, said: ‘I’m thrilled to be hosting What Just Happened? for the superstars at BBC Radio Wales, at a time when we need topical comedy and satire more than ever.
‘We’ve got big plans for this show, and there’s a cheeseboard for Mark Drakeford if he ever wants to appear on the panel. I’ve written on topical shows for a decade, and couldn’t be prouder to be giving a platform for the next generation of brilliant Welsh comedy writers.’
Pritchard-McLean added: ‘I’m so excited to be a part of What Just Happened?, a show brimming with Welsh talent, live show recordings and a way for me to digest the news that’s healthier than doomscrolling Twitter – I can’t wait!’
The show was announced at the BBC comedy festival currently under way in Cardiff.
Head of Radio Wales Carolyn Hitt said: ‘Comedy is a hugely important part of how we reflect Wales back to our audiences on BBC Radio Wales – it can be as effective as our journalism in providing scrutiny and unpicking how Wales works. We can use comedy to make serious points.
‘I’m really excited about What Just Happened? Robin and Kiri are the perfect talents to give us comedy that punches up - providing laser-sharp satire on Welsh politics and public life and making mischief with Welsh popular culture, news and sport.’
Co-creator Henry Widdicombe of Little Wander said: ‘As a company dedicated to supporting and building Welsh talent, in Wales, Little Wander couldn’t be prouder of the opportunities that a show such as What Just Happened? will bring to the Welsh comedy landscape.'
• An open-call for new writers will be running in June. To register interest, email submissions@littlewander.co.uk between now and Wednesday June 14. A writing task will be set the following Friday, with the deadline of midnight on Sunday June 18.
