A former marketing executive for Shell, Jimmy Carr is one of the hardest-working comedians in the UK, and DVDs of his live shows now sell more than 150,000 copies each.

His first full-length show, Bare-Faced Ambition, was nominated for the Perrier in 2002; and he was named best stand-up at the Time Out Awards in 2003, and at the Laftas in 2004. At the same awards he was named ‘funniest man’ in 2005.

He won the Royal Television Society Award for best on-screen newcomer in 2003, and soon established himself one of the main faces of Channel 4, hosting game show Distraction, the first series of The Friday Night Project, three series of panel show 8 Out Of 10 Cats, and several specials such as The Big Fat End of Year Quiz and The Comedians’ Comedian.

Carr has also made headway in the US, performing four times on NBC’s Tonight With Jay Leno and three times on NBC’s Late Night with Conan O’Brien. He made a half-hour stand-up special for Comedy Central, and hosted two series of Distraction USA for the same network.

He has also appeared in the films Confetti, Alien Autopsy and Stormbreaker, all released in 2006; and has hosted a weekly radio show for London’s XFM.

Who's in Last One Laughing Series 2

Line-up announced

The line-up has been revealed for the second series of Last One Laughing, with Bob Mortimer confirmed to be returning to defend his series one crown.

Also taking part are David Mitchell, Diane Morgan, Romesh Ranganathan, Amy Gledhill, Maisie Adam, Mel Giedroyc, Alan Carr, Gbemisola Ikumelo and Sam Campbell.

Jimmy Carr will again host, with Roisin Conaty returning as his deputy, it was confirmed at the Edinburgh TV Festival today.

The show  has already been filmed and will air on Amazon’s Prime Video in 2026. Mortimer and Gledhill’s roles had been leaked last month.

It will also feature other comedians in cameo roles, with series one featuring memorable appearances by Danny Dyer and Nick Mohammed’s Mr Swallow.

Comics taking part have to make the others laugh without cracking up themselves – and getting evicted from the room.

Series one attracted up to 6.1million viewers an episode, making it the second most streamed show on the platform in the UK after Clarkson's Farm.

It is just many national adaptations of the original Japanese series Documental, created by Hitoshi Matsumoto, which have including an Irish version hosted by Graham Norton, a South African one hosted by Trevor Noah and an Australian adaptation hosted by Rebel Wilson.

The other comedians in series one of the UK series were Daisy May Cooper, Joe Lycett, Judi Love, Rob Beckett, Sara Pascoe, Lou Sanders, Joe Wilkinson, Harriet Kemsley and Richard Ayoade.

Last One Laughing is made by production companies Zeppotron and Initial.
