Frank Skinner returns to radio – in a sitcom

Starring alongside Ahir Shah, Ania Magliano and writer Garrett Millerick

Frank Skinner is returning to radio – but in a sitcom.

The comedian, who was axed by Absolute Radio last month, is to star alongside Ahir Shah and Ania Magliano in a new Radio 4 show written by fellow comedian Garrett Millerick, who also has a role.

Do Gooders is an ensemble workplace that takes listeners behind the curtain of the charity industry and mines the frustrations that come with trying to ‘do good’ on an industrial scale.

The show follows the fundraising events team of fictional mid-level charity, Alzheimer’s Alliance who, producers Avalon say, ‘are constantly aware that they’re never more than one ice bucket challenge away from slipping right down the league tables’.

Compounding external pressures is a fiercely competitive battle between the teams responsible for the two types of fundraising: challenge events like bike rides and marathons, and virtual events.

It will be Skinner’s first sitcom role since his own show, Shane, aired on ITV 20 years ago,

Millerick

Millerick, above, had a routine about charity fundraising in his last Edinburgh show, Never Had It So Good, where he questioned the motives of those asking to be sponsored to have amazing experiences.

Avalon’s other credits include the TV sitcoms Not Going Out and  Breeders, as well as Taskmaster.

Do Gooders will be recorded in front of a live audience over three sessions at Theatre Peckham in South London in May and June, and free tickets are available from Standing Room Only
