Chris McCasuland to make a documentary about tech
Trying out the 'gadgets and gizmos' that will help his life
Chris McCasuland is to make a BBC Two documentary on how technology has been life-changing for him, and what the future holds.
The hour-long programme is titled Chris Mccausland: Seeing Into the Future and being made by Open Mike Productions.
McCasuland – who lost his sight to a condition called retinitis pigmentosa – will be heading to Silicon Valley to film the documentary this summer.
He said: ‘I’ve always been a tech nerd, and now I can't wait to finally get to count this indulgence as work.
' I'm going to love trying out the latest gadgets and gismos before anybody else can. I'm also going to try and make friends with some robots, because it probably won't be long until they're in charge of us all.’
Producers said: ‘Whereas for sighted people, innovations such as the iPhone and voice interactive smart assistants are nice things to have, for Chris, they have been life changing.
‘Chris studied software engineering at university and can’t wait to get his hands on the next generation of mind-blowing devices. From robots and driverless cars, to AI and the future of smart glasses, he’s champing at the bit to find out what the future holds.’
Andy Thistlewood, executive producer for Open Mike said: ‘Chris has hosted Live at the Apollo, been a guest numerous times on The Last Leg, recorded his stand-up show Chris McCausland: Live and presented his own travel show Wonders of the World I Can’t See, all with Open Mike Productions.
‘He took a brief bit of time away from the fold to win Strictly, but now we’re delighted to be working together again on this fascinating and fun journey into Chris’s own relationship with technology and a brave new world of cutting-edge AI, robotics and driverless cars.’
