• Interesting casting rumours surround the new Dad's Army movie. It has already been announced that Toby Jones would play pompous Captain Mainwaring with Bill Nighy as his well-to-do second-in command, Private Wilson. Now Filmdivider.com reports that Mackenzie Crook is in the frame to appear as the spivvy Private Walker alongside Richard Wilson, Michael Gambon and John Hurt as older members of the Walmington-On-Sea Home Guard. Finally Anna Friel is now attached to play Mavis Pike, a supporting role from the original show expanded to add more female characters for this new film. Chortle understands that Dad's Army co-creator Jimmy Perry is 'very happy' with the reported cast. However, since this story was first published McKenzie Crook's agent has been in touch to say he turned down that role.

• Watching two episodes of My Family cost fan Patricia Al more than £10,000, thanks to phone data charges. The 23-year-old bought the episodes from iTunes while on holiday in Bodrum, Turkey – but downloaded via the mobile network by mistake. She was also charged over £2,500 for other data she used on holiday after turning off the cap. O2 has agreed to cut the £6,640 from the bill, while the Chelsea girl's daddy will pay the rest.

• Richard Herring, Stephen K Amos, Milton Jones and Terry Alderton have shed 70lbs between them after taking up weight-loss challenge from Men's Health magazine.
