As companion Dan

The BBC has released the first clip of John Bishop in Doctor Who.

Last night it was announced that the comedian would be playing companion called Dan in the next series of the show, due to air later this year.

In the teaser clip, which starts with an establishing shot of the River Mersey, a mate is shown reading Dan his horoscope for the year ahead 'surprises lie in store this year. The colour blue will be important and the letter D and your lucky number is 13. Be prepared for action and whatever hurdles come your way, remember it's not the end of the world.'

The next series is the 13th since the 2005 revival, and Jodie Whittaker is the 13th Doctor.

Bishop said joining the show was 'a dream come true'.
